Apologies again for the delays in posts, I promise that this will definitely happen again. Real talk though, we have been super busy the last couple of weeks zooming around and haven’t had time to write a post, but, here one is!
So, we decided it was time to visit the world famous Cradle Mountain, one of the most pictured images when people think of Tasmania. In order to access the area, we decided that instead of staying in hotel write near the mountain that we felt was overpriced, we would stay in a super cute AirBnb close to the town Deloraine just North of Cradle. As you can see by the view, I think we made a wise decision. Lauren will probably be cross at me for mentioning this, but I thought it was quite amusing when she asked if the sheep water trough was the outdoor bath that we had been promised for the stay. Stay tuned to see if I survive telling that story.
We ventured out to the mountain and learned just how twisty Tassie roads can be with signs telling us to go round at 15km/h being a pretty good guide and generally not too far away from the Troopy’s top speed up some of these mountains! In saying that, we arrived safely in once piece.
I’m not sure the guide at the visitor centre knew how fast we can walk when we set out minds to it after making sure we knew what time the last shuttle bus left. We decided to prove her wrong and set off to do the Marions Lookout walk that apparently takes “5 hours”. Rubbish we say.
The walk was both scenic and quite challenging, with an early wombat sighting being a personal highlight. The start of the walk definitely had Lord of the Rings vibes, which due to Lauren’s general avoidance of movies, I’m not sure she appreciated, but still thought that it was beautiful. We passed through waterfalls and some beautiful lakes and made it to the steep section… this was less scenic and something that we have learnt is that whenever a walk has chains to assist you coming up and down, its a pretty serious walk! The view at the lookout was definitely worth it with a 360 degree view of the mountain and surrounding area definitely worth the tough climb up!

For the people playing along at home, we also proved the guide wrong and made it back to the shuttle bus with almost an hour to spare. Not that we’re competitive…

On our second day at Cradle Mountain we were joined by Lauren’s Dad and we were on a mission to see a wombat up close. We decided to do a boardwalk to hopefully the not aptly named Snake Creek and despite some more stunning scenery, we did not find our wombat :(.

Overall, we loved Cradle Mountain and definitely will return to try and tackle the summit walk!
