It was time for life to settle down for a little bit and pause the nomadic traveler lifestyle. Lauren had just started a nursing role at Geraldton Regional Hospital and we had taken up the offer to farm sit a property in the nearby Chapman Valley, while the farmer was out seeding wheat.

After settling in to farm life, we decided to take an advantage of a Lauren day off and made our way up the coast to Kalbarri, eager to see its famous gorges and lookouts! We stopped in to the town centre for lunch on the way and decided against the crayfish special that may have required Lauren to work until 2025 to pay off and had some great fish and chips instead.
We made our way inland to the National Park and immediately went to see the renowned skywalk. Safe to say, it lived up to its reputation, jutting out from the shear cliff of the valley and giving a perfect panoramic view.

We then made a risky decision to do the loop walk which takes you on a steep and windy course along the gorges and river that you can see in the distance of the photo above. The beginning of the walk also provided us with a perfect opportunity to get the drone into action, at a place called natures window. Safe to say, we were a little nervous about the potential for a drone crash, but the end result was worth it.
From here, we made our way into the valley and when I say the flies were unlike anything we had ever seen, we weren’t joking! Think we may need to invest in some fly nets…

The risk was, we only had about 4 hours until sunset and a relatively long drive back to the farm ahead of us and with the walk supposed to take 4-6 hours, we decided that it was doable and everyone else must be slow.
The walk itself was amazing, you really felt like you had been taken back in time with the valley walls around you, no other humans in sight and the harsh but beautiful WA bush coming right up to the river. Scrub and gum trees bordering the fresh water really created a sharp contrast and was amazing to see.

We managed to make it through the walk unscathed, conquering a final steep climb back to where we began. This time, the setting sun bathed the entire valley in a golden glow and we felt a real sense of accomplishment finishing the challenging walk.

So ends our Kalbarri adventure and back to farm life. Stay tuned for more weekend escapes to come!
