Leaving Albany, we considered skipping Margaret River and South West WA as we had already visited twice before, but we are very glad we didn’t!
Quick side note, on our way out of Albany, we were able to tick off another letter in our parkrun challenge around Australia in the form of M, as we completed Manjimup. Second place this time for Steve, but some solid hills on the course and a lap around one of the oldest and biggest trees we’ve ever seen made for a scenic run.
Heading West, we made it to Margaret River and now that we were heading into crayfish (lobster) territory, it was straight to BCF to pick up a cray loop, a staple for catching crays in WA.

It didn’t take long for the investment to pay off, as later that very afternoon Steve went for a shore dive and picked up our first cray of this lap!

We found ourselves a nice bush camp about 20 minutes out of Margaret River and had ourselves a cracking lobster dinner. Lobster, garlic and butter is all you need.

It had been a while between winery trips, so the next day we decided to do our due diligence around Margaret Rivers best wineries and it was nice to have a little taste of luxury after being out bush for a while.

We also visited one of our favourite wineries in Australia and one that we are wine club members at, Voyager Estate. It would have been rude not to use the discount we get there for a take home (troopy) bottle.

We decided it was time to move on from Margaret River and headed further West to Dunsborough, a picturesque little coastal town. We decided after great discussion, to take the boat out and see if we could get a feed of whiting. Although, we were unsuccessful in getting this feed, we actually managed to catch 6 different species including this funky looking pufferfish!

Lozzy also resumed her duties as chief fishing officer and was very happy with her work here.

It was caravan park time and some luxurious hot showers! It had been several days between a proper wash, so this was definitely needed! We were staying in Busselton and it was nice to have some creature comforts including washing machine access, as we were both running low on clean clothes. We also were rewarded with one of the best sunsets of the trip so far!

Lozzy being Lozzy made use of the camp kitchen facilities and had a full roast dinner in the oven in no time and as usual it was awesome!

We also found a very scenic run path that connected to the back of the caravan park and it was almost like being back in Hervey Bay having the track by the ocean.
After a “quick” bunnings mission to replace some leaking sink plumbing and a faulty trailer plug, we were back on the road feeling like handymen and women and for the first time on our trip, we were heading North! This time towards Perth and with fuel prices skyrocketing and an Alfie lifestyle to maintain, some much needed nursing work for Lauren.
Apologies for the delay between posts, we will be back much faster this time with a post about our time in Perth, its surrounds and our Easter mission up to one of our favourite camps in Australia!
