Jurien Bay and Sandy Cape, WA

After spending a few days recuperating in Perth (getting away from Children during school holidays), we left suburbia and headed North to Sandy Cape Recreation Park, just outside the town of Jurien Bay.

We were excited to be back in the Troopy and away from the restrictiveness of city life. Driving down the dirt road in the pitch black into the campground, we went to check out the beach. We knew that we were onto a winner, when a 10 second walk over the small embankment opened up to a perfectly sheltered bay lit up by the stars and moonlight. After settling in for the night, we vowed to explore the area properly tomorrow.

Beautiful little spot

The next day, we walked around the beach and the cape that the campground was named after. We also managed to put the drone up in the air and I really feel that this picture showcases how awesome of a campground this spot was.

Steve even had a very unsuccessful fishing attempt both on the standup paddle board and from the shore, bringing him to the conclusion that there were no fish in the bay and it couldn’t be anything to do with his tactics. In saying that, we managed to spot a friendly face in the water that turned out to be a local sealion wanting to say hello! We managed to cap off a relaxing day with a beautiful evening on the beach watching the sun go down over the calm bay.

Nice to see a friendly face!

The next day had a surprising beginning, with a request to dog sit a golden retriever called Molly, while her owners went to swim with the sealions up the road at Jurien Bay. Being the dog lovers that we are, we agreed almost instantly and would even have payed the owners to look after her! This led to a very chill morning, with Lauren continuing her development as a book reader and Steve starting to make headway into his 700 page mammoth, War and Peace.

Best dog sitters in WA!
Such a good girl

After saying goodbye to Molly, it was time for Steve to go for a dive around the reef a few minutes walk from the campsite, with the hope of finding the ever elusive crayfish he had been looking for. Unfortunately, there were no crays to be seen, but the marine life living in the reef was spectacular and really showcased how good the water quality is on this coastline!

Such a good spot

That afternoon, we also received exciting news that Lauren had been accepted for a nursing position at Geraldton Hospital. Given this, we decided that we would leave Sandy Cape the next day and head up closer to Geraldton, just in case she was asked to start work shortly. Stay tuned to hear how that went!
