Quobba Station, WA

Leaving Shark Bay, we were again reminded of how bloody big WA is when we put Carnarvon, our next spot into maps and the hours of driving ahead of us became real!

We managed to survive the drive and Lauren had an interesting experience navigating the shopping centre in the chaos that is Carnarvon! Surviving again, we headed out of town, taking the obligatory instagram photo next to the King Waves sign and made our way into Quobba station, our home for the next couple of days.

Given this was our first station stay, we were pleasantly surprised with the facilities that were provided! Hot water showers, a requirement as it had been a little while between washes were a godsend and pretty ingenious, with a wood fire and solar heating being combined to provide hot water! It was also a good spot to do some much needed clothes wash, with socks and jocks numbers growing low.

Although slightly windy, we managed to score a pretty nifty camp spot overlooking the sea, great for watching the migrating whales coming within a few hundred metres of the shore! It was times like these that having a drone was a godsend, as we were able to capture these amazing shots without having to risk an upset Lauren stomach.

Having a whale of a time

It was also a great spot to catch a sunset. Although, unpopular and potentially biased opinion, but especially on the west coast, WA has not lived up to the standards set by South Australia in the sunset department!

Overall, Quobba was great change of pace and a much needed shower stop! It’s now time to head further north and start the Ningaloo Coast!
